What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is designed to professionally remove stains from the enamel of your teeth, leaving a brighter, whiter result. It is a quick, simple and very popular treatment which achieves stunning results for a enhanced and more youthful looking smile.

Philips Zoom! Whitening

At Middleton St George Dental Care, our whitening system of choice is Philips Zoom! This allows you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your home, at a time that suits you, while safe in the knowledge that a dental professional is closely supervising your treatment and progress. We provide you with custom made whitening trays, advise you how to use them and let you start whitening your teeth.

We offer two types of whitening:

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I buy a home whitening kit online?

Whitening kits are available online, but you should avoid this. Your dentist is best placed to look after your teeth, and experienced and qualified in whitening treatment. Online kits and whitening treatment carried out in beauty salons is not regulated and could cause long term damage to your teeth and gums.

  • Is teeth whitening suitable for me?

Teeth whitening treatment is generally suitable for most patients, but we take the time to examine your teeth, evaluate your level of staining and ensure whitening treatments will provide effective results. If your teeth are particularly stained, you may need two doses of treatment.

  • Will teeth whitening treatment damage my teeth?

No, the treatment will not damage your tooth enamel or structure. It can cause some sensitivity, but this is temporary and will go away once you have finished your treatment.

  • Is teeth whitening painful?

Teeth whitening is pain free, and you should actually find your whitening trays are comfortable to wear due to their bespoke nature. You may experience some sensitivity in your teeth during treatment, but this stops when treatment is complete.

  • Are my teeth whitening results permanent?

Your treatment results, and your whiter, brighter teeth, are not permanent and will fade over time. You can expect your results to last up to 3 years before needing to be topped up. This can be accelerated if you consume a lot of dark coloured food and drink, or are a smoker.
