Our Team

Chris graduated from Newcastle University in 2005 and in August of the same year started working as a Vocational Trainee Dentist at Middleton St George Dental Care. After two further years of being an Associate Dentist, he purchased the practice in 2008.

Chris is passionate about quality, preventive and bespoke dentistry and excellent customer service, which is reflected in the practice mantra, ‘dental health for life’. Chris heavily invests in his postgraduate education, which has led him to various centres of excellence all over the world, a synopsis of which is detailed below:

• Member of the Royal College of Surgeons and the College of General Dentistry
• Four trips to San Francisco (2011-12) to train in Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry with the California Center for Advanced Dental Studies
• Attended various Dental Implant courses in London, Nottingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Lisbon and Seattle
• Winner, 2015 Aesthetic Dentistry Awards
• Finalist in 2 categories, 2016 Aesthetic Dentistry Awards
• After 18 months and over 250 hours of further study, completed the arduous 9-module curriculum and graduated from the Kois Center in Seattle in 2017
• Finalist, Dentist of the Year North & Central 2020
• Currently tutors on the Implant Inculcate Course at Waterfront Dental Education, Newcastle.

Chris has a special interest in Restorative, Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry, and has been involved in the placement and/or restoration of over 1000 dental implants since 2011. He continues to invest in the latest technology for the benefit of more predictable treatment outcomes and better patient comfort, including a 3D cone-beam CT scanner, 3D digital intraoral scanners for impression-free dentistry and a 3D-printer.

He maintains his training with regular trips to Seattle for the latest updates in evidence-based dentistry at the annual Kois Center Symposium. In order to further his microsurgical training, he began the curriculum at the Hurzeler/Zuhr Academy in Munich in September 2022.

Something you may not know about Chris is that he has Spatial Sequence Synaesthesia (look it up!).

Janine’s passion for dentistry began at the age of 16 when she embarked on her dental career in 1987. Her initial experience at the first practice she worked for felt like a journey back in time; Janine vividly recalls the absence of gloves and the necessity of retracting patients’ mouths open with her fingers—a stark contrast to modern practices. At 18, she seized the opportunity to work in a fully private practice. Over the next 12 years, she honed her skills and eventually qualified as a Dental Surgery Assistant, also passing her Sedation exam. Throughout her career, Janine has been privileged to explore every facet of dentistry, including witnessing the pioneering placement of some of the first implants at Manchester Dental Hospital.

Having worked at various practices, Janine found herself offered the position of Practice Manager at Middleton St. George in 2014. Over the past 8 years, she has cherished the opportunity to work with an exceptional team, witnessing the practice’s growth and success. Janine attributes this achievement to the support and loyalty of their amazing patients.

Outside of work, Janine finds joy in spending time with her family. She met her husband, Gary, at the age of 28 while on holiday in Crete, and they spent the following 12 months commuting up and down the A1 to see each other every weekend. Janine eventually relocated to County Durham in 2002, where she and Gary tied the knot in 2007 and welcomed two wonderful boys into their lives.

A little-known fact about Janine is that she has served as a principal order player for many brass bands.

Harry joined MSG in 2022 after graduating with Honours and merits in both clinical and academic dentistry from Newcastle University.

Despite his youthful appearance, Harry has quickly made a name for himself in private practice, delivering the highest quality of care and earning accolades from prestigious organisations such as the British Association of Private Dentistry and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

With a keen interest in aesthetic restorative dentistry, Harry specialises in various restorative procedures for the practice, including composite bonding and veneers. He is often found either behind the camera lens capturing the perfect shot or sharing his expertise by teaching others how to achieve the highest quality images of their work.

Much like Chris, Harry is committed to advancing his skills and knowledge. He has registered to attend the Kois Centre in Seattle next year and has plans to pursue a master’s degree in restorative dentistry.

Harriet Beaty is a dedicated and compassionate dentist committed to lifelong oral care and disease prevention. With a passion for enhancing smiles and improving lives, she seamlessly combines her expertise with a warm, caring approach that instantly puts patients at ease. Harriet’s commitment to fostering healthy smiles extends beyond dental treatment; she believes in empowering individuals to maintain optimal general health as well.

While her approach is firmly rooted in scientific principles, Harriet also incorporates a significant element of artistry, tailoring her knowledge to each individual patient’s needs. She takes into account their medical history, habits, and long-term wellness goals, ensuring a personalised approach to care.

Harriet has pursued further training in various areas, including teeth straightening with clear aligners, composite bonding, and veneers. She holds a special interest in periodontal disease treatment and is currently undergoing additional training in the UK and Europe to enhance her ability to serve her patients effectively.

Outside of work, Harriet finds joy in gardening and staying fit. She shares her life with Lola, her beloved cocker spaniel, with whom she enjoys exploring the North East or visiting family in the Lake District.

Dr. Ana, a graduate of Newcastle University in 2017, has been offering Invisalign treatments for her patients since 2019. With a passion for aesthetic dental composite and advanced restorative work, Ana gained valuable experience during her time in London with Monik Vasant, further enhancing her expertise in these areas.

Her primary focus lies in dental implants, and Ana underwent additional postgraduate training in 2022 at Waterfront Dental in Newcastle. This training not only broadened her skills but also equipped her to effectively treat anxious patients, ranging from simple procedures to complex cosmetic dentistry.

Academically, Ana holds an MFDS qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, underscoring her dedication to continuous professional development.

Beyond dentistry, Ana’s interests span traveling across continents, fluency in seven languages, and a dynamic sports background. From playing volleyball at Newcastle University to achieving near-black belt proficiency in Taekwondo, and her avid love for skiing, Dr. Ana’s adventurous spirit extends beyond her professional endeavours, embodying a holistic approach to life and healthcare.

We prefer to save teeth with endodontic treatment in cases where we are feel there is a high chance of eliminating the acute or chronic inflammatory burden on the patient’s system, before resorting to extraction. Ali thrives to go above and beyond to save compromised teeth using different techniques he has learned from enhanced training and research. Understanding that dental treatment can be daunting, especially for many patients who have had bad experiences in the past Ali adopts a patient-centred approach to treatment to ensure even the most anxious patients feel at ease.
He had an article recently published in the BDJ regarding the reduction in the use of single-use plastics in general dental practice and is planning to start a Post Graduate Diploma in Endodontics in the very near future.

With over 20 years of experience in implant and advanced restorative dentistry, Paul is a seasoned professional dedicated to providing the highest quality dental treatment and outcomes for his patients. Having personally placed over 1000 implants, Paul’s expertise in the field is unmatched. His passion lies in offering a comprehensive range of mentoring and referral implant services for fellow dentists, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.

Paul’s commitment to excellence extends beyond his practice. He is actively involved in continuing education, attending numerous courses worldwide to stay abreast of the latest techniques in implant dentistry. Additionally, Paul shares his knowledge and expertise as a national educator, teaching other dentists on advanced techniques in implant dentistry. As one of only three UK mentors at the prestigious Kois Advanced Teaching Centre in Seattle, Paul is at the forefront of implant dentistry education.

In addition to his educational pursuits, Paul is dedicated to advancing the field of implant dentistry on a larger scale. He serves as the North East representative on the committee of the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI), where he contributes to shaping industry standards and practices. Furthermore, Paul’s commitment to continuous learning is evident in his graduation from the Hurzeler and Zuhr Dental Education Institute, where he completed all eight master classes in periodontology and implant therapy.

With his wealth of experience, dedication to excellence, and commitment to education and professional development, Paul is a trusted leader in the field of implant dentistry, providing unparalleled care and expertise to his patients and colleagues alike.

Field of patient care: provision of conscious sedation for patients with dental anxiety and/or those undergoing complex dental surgery.

Kate Stewart graduated in 2003 from University of Bristol. With a comprehensive background in restorative dentistry, she particularly enjoys treating patients with dental anxiety, using conscious sedation techniques, allowing these patients to access dental treatment in a safe and comfortable environment.

Alongside our surgical colleagues, Kate provides conscious sedation for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures, improving patient experience and surgical outcomes.

Kate’s clinical practice is characterised by her unwavering commitment to patient overall well-being and is driven by a genuine desire to positively improve dental experience.

Andy was born and brought up in Liverpool. He studied for his dental degree at Manchester University, qualifying in 1987. He studied medicine at the University of London qualifying in 1996.

He has been a consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Sunderland Royal Hospital for twenty years, specialising in head and neck oncology and reconstruction and skin cancer.

He is presently head of department in Sunderland, and is an honorary lecturer at the University of Newcastle medical school.

Andy has been carrying out dental implant surgery and Oral Surgery with Chris Burton at MSG for 10 years.

Andy is married to Karen and they have three children Scott, Laura and Josh. When not working Andy enjoys woodworking, model making and driving his vintage Massey Ferguson tractor.

Lisa graduated from Newcastle School of Dental Hygiene and Therapy with a merit in December 2010. Since then, she has dedicated 11 years and 6 months to working at MSG. One of the most rewarding aspects of her job is building connections with her patients and accompanying them on their dental journey.

During the pandemic, Lisa and her family found solace in playing board games together. Since then, she has rediscovered her love for swimming, taken leisurely walks, and recently developed an interest in listening to podcasts.

An interesting fact about Lisa that many people may not know is that at the age of 14, she was a UK championship winner in a jazz band, showcasing her talent playing the kazoo.

Sarah qualified as a Dental Therapist in 2020 from Teesside University and has been a valued member of the MSG team for over 2 years. Prior to transitioning to a Dental Therapist role, Sarah dedicated 7 years to working as a Dental Nurse but desired further career advancement.

Outside of work, Sarah treasures spending time with her family, particularly her two young children who fill her days with joy and activity.

She also finds relaxation and enjoyment in playing netball, being an active member of Thornaby Netball Club where she excels as a Goal Shooter.

An intriguing fact about Sarah that many may not be aware of is her commitment to vegetarianism for nearly 30 years.

Zoe has been a Dental Hygienist at MSG for three years. She graduated from Newcastle Dental Hospital School Of Dental Hygiene in 1993. Later, Zoe pursued further education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (BSc), followed by a Master’s in Health Psychology and a teaching qualification – PGCE. These qualifications have provided her with a deeper understanding of patients, their needs, and behaviour within the dental setting, leading to a career in dental hygiene education.

Working at MSG brings Zoe immense job satisfaction. She utilises top-quality equipment, enabling her to deliver the highest quality of care while adhering to up-to-date evidence-based practices.

Outside of the dental arena, Zoe enjoys spending time with her family and indulging in her hobby of photographing the beauty of nature.

Unknown Fact – Zoe was once mistaken for an aerobics instructor! A proud moment indeed!

Gemma has been a valued member of the Queensway team since 1999, initially starting as a Dental Nurse from 1999 to 2001. Seeking to advance her career, she attended full-time university from January 2002 to December 2003. Gemma then successfully qualified as a Dental Hygienist at Newcastle Dental Hospital and returned to Queensway in January 2004.

Throughout her career, Gemma has had the privilege of sharing her expertise with dental students at Teesside University, where she served as a Clinical Supervisor for 1-2 days a week. Recently, she transitioned to join The MSG team, allowing her to focus more on her clinical role, which she is deeply passionate about, particularly enjoying daily interactions with patients.

Gemma provides a range of treatments, from maintenance dental cleaning to full non-surgical periodontal treatments. She is dedicated to offering the best oral health advice, including oral hygiene instructions, diet advice, smoking cessation, and oral cancer screening.

With a keen interest in managing anxious patients, Gemma finds great reward in making a positive difference to their experience.

Outside of work, Gemma is a devoted mother to two beautiful boys who keep her very busy. She enjoys staying active at her local gym and embarking on adventures with her two dogs, Ralph the schnauzer and Bob the Maltipoo. Gemma also finds solace in practicing meditation, which complements her hectic family life.

Courtney brings a wealth of experience and qualifications in dental nursing, boasting over 15 years of expertise in the field. She earned her NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing in 2003 and further honed her skills with qualifications in radiography in 2009 and impression taking in 2010. Over the past 14 years, Courtney has specialised in orthodontics, demonstrating her commitment as a lead nurse for 15 years. Recently, in April 2023, she made a transition back into general dentistry, eager to apply her extensive knowledge and experience in a new setting.

Beyond her professional life, Courtney’s priorities lie in her family. She is deeply family-oriented, dedicating her spare time to creating cherished memories with her three children and husband. From attending football matches to organising parties, Courtney’s days are filled with the joy and chaos of family life. Despite her busy schedule, she nurtures a long-standing desire to reignite her passion for horse riding, a hobby she reluctantly gave up during pregnancies.

As for a fun fact, Courtney has a unique nickname that only her Mom uses—’Coco.’ Though it may evoke a blush or two at the age of 41, it serves as a touching reminder of the special bond she shares with her family.

Nuala began her career as a dental nurse in 1992, working in a mixed NHS-private practice. After exploring various avenues, she discovered her passion for dentistry and in 2006, she joined a private cosmetic dental practice. Working alongside skilled dental surgeons, Nuala gained valuable insights into advanced dental procedures.

With a deep-seated commitment to 5-star patient care, Nuala thrives in her role as a treatment coordinator. At MSG Dental practice, she plays a pivotal role in the patient journey, listening to their stories and relaying pertinent information to the clinician. Nuala ensures patients understand their clinical findings and treatment plans, using patient-friendly language, and coordinates appointments accordingly. She remains dedicated to supporting patients throughout their journey.

Nuala’s decision to join the team at Middleton St George was driven by her passion for continuous learning and professional growth.

Fun fact – Nuala is a talented cellist and performs as part of the Teesside Symphony Orchestra.

Daniella has been part of the MSG family since 2021, and has recently completed her apprenticeship in dental nursing. She made a big change and went in a new direction after completing her BA and MA in Fine Art at Teesside University, but she really enjoys all the new challenges and learning opportunities she gets at MSG.

Daniella is very proud of the work and treatments the team offer to their patients. She loves seeing the way dental technology, techniques and methods are used to give people much more confidence in their smiles.

Outside of work, Daniella likes exploring new places with her dogs, socialising with her friends and spending time with her family. She is partial to a rum or cocktail, then works it all off in the gym.

Ellie is presently undergoing her apprenticeship at college to achieve a Level 3 qualification in dental nursing. She commenced her role as an apprentice dental nurse at MSG in December 2022, having previously worked for a construction company. Outside of work, she enjoys exercising at the gym and travelling. One lesser-known fact about Ellie is that she originally hails from Scarborough.

Shauna embarked on her career in pharmacy, obtaining an NVQ Level 2 dispensing qualification and completing an access course in health. Subsequently, she commenced her professional journey at MSG, serving as a Dental Nurse until her recent decision to pivot her career path towards reception work. During her leisure time, Shauna enjoys bonding with her younger brother, who is 18 years her junior. Additionally, she proudly purchased her first home in 2022, deeming it one of her most significant accomplishments.

Katie is a key member of our reception team and has a passion for excellent customer service. With a rich background in luxury hospitality and retail, she brings invaluable experience and a personal touch to everything she does. Her expertise in spa services and skincare further enhances the Facial Aesthetic treatments offered by Dr. Ana Ionescu.

Originally from London, Katie has worked at prestigious establishments such as SoSPA at Sofitel, The Peak at Jumeirah Carlton Tower, as well as Liberty and Harvey Nichols department stores. Transitioning from the vibrant city of London to the peaceful village of Middleton St George, her commitment to hospitality and excellence remains as strong as ever.
