What is covered by the guarantee?
If Crowns, Veneers, Bridges, Fillings, Root Fillings, Dental Implants, Dentures, Inlays or Onlays provided to you by us fail and need to be replaced/repaired within 5 years, you will not be charged for the remedial treatment.
Please note that this does not apply to the tooth itself – it is the treatment on the tooth that it applies to. One example is where a filling has been placed and after a period of time a piece of tooth breaks away; we would then charge for further treatment. If the filling itself broke or came out, this would be replaced like for like at no additional cost.
The 5-Year Promise is only valid as long as:
You return to us for the remedial/replacement treatment, ie it is not valid if you decide to have further treatment at another dentist.
You attend regularly for routine Dental Health Assessments and Hygiene Treatment as we advise.
You maintain a satisfactory standard of oral hygiene and use any oral hygiene products, as recommended by us.
You agree to promptly undertake any further treatment as advised by us.
You maintain a healthy diet that is low in sugars and low in acids (eg. citrus fruits/juices, fizzy drinks, including “diet” drinks). For example, if you breaking a tooth or pulling a crown off whilst eating a sweet or toffee, this would not be guaranteed.
You wear any splint/nightguard provided to you in accordance with the advice given to you by us. We may ask to see your appliance to check it.
You return promptly for any review appointments advised by us, in order to check any treatment we have provided.
Any damage is not a direct result of accident/trauma, either internal (eg. from biting into a fork or olive stone) or external (eg. a fall or a blow to the face). You may wish to consider taking separate insurance out to cover this.
The treatment was provided against our advice, for example if you decided to have a filling in a tooth when we advised that the tooth needs a crown.
Any questions?Exclusions to the 5-Year Promise:
Sometimes teeth that have been treated can die because of the nature of the procedure, due to the removal of tooth tissue which in some cases can be extensive. Studies put this risk at approximately 2-8%. If this occurs, the affected tooth/teeth may require root canal treatment, for which there will be a charge as per our normal fee schedule.
If further treatment is required due to new gum disease (periodontitis/periodontal disease) or new tooth decay.
Accidental loss or damage to Invisalign aligners, retainers, splints/nightguards/mouthguards, whitening trays and dentures.
Temporary treatment including temporary crowns/bridges and temporary fillings/dressings.
Denture repairs.
Due to their inherently unpredictable long-term nature, the following treatments are all excluded from the 5-Year Promise:
- Teeth Whitening
- Periodontal therapy (treatment for gum disease/periodontitis)
- Apicectomies
- Orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign*, including retainers
- Air polishing/stain removal
- Nightguards/splints/sports mouthguards
